I never heard back from Monty's son. Not a word. He gave me the old Simon & Garfunkel — Sound of Silence — announced his dad's passing on Instagram, but never the funeral arrangements.
Today I discovered the funeral was yesterday.
Some photos turned up on social media. It was hosted at The Little Devil — which felt fitting, but also a surprise, given they'd once turned their back on him.
A brightly painted wicker coffin sat on the stage, surrounded by puppets from his long career in the industry. One had been made in his image — well, dressed like him, at least.
It felt fitting that they'd see him off too. The man who gave them life, now as still as they are.
All in all, from what I could tell, it was everything I'd have expected from Monty and the people he kept around him.
Nobody but the pallbearers wore suits. It was very casual.
RIP Le Chew.
